"Hey there, little birdie," came a voice from above Dinah, and she looked up to see her friend Selina on the roof. That made Dinah's mood much better, and she hastily made use of the fire-escapes — and walls — to get up there.
"Hey yourself, tabby cat," she said with a grin, barely breathing hard for that exercise. "A bit out of your territory, aren't you?" She plopped herself down on the roof-edge next to the other girl.
"Hmm, came to check on one of the ones that got adopted out, make sure it was on the up and up."
"This neighborhood? It better be, or word will get around. Bunch of nosy people around. And Dad hears all the rumors like that."
"Nice older couple, and the kid was from their faith. How he wound up in a Catholic orphanage is anyone's guess," Selina said, giving Dinah the clues to keep her own ears out for the kid.
"Glad you decided to stick around when you got done," Dinah admitted, leaning over against Selina.
"Knew you'd be out sooner rather than later. Make any money today?"
"No; this tutoring is a trade. I help the blockhead learn, Mom gets her bad cooler fixed for free."
"You seem to be the one giving up time and effort a lot for these trades," Selina said, disapproving.
"Family business, Selina. Have to support mom somehow, and Dad uses it as an excuse to keep her off my back when I go out in the evenings." She slung her arm around Selina's shoulders and squeezed. "I get what I need."
"If you say so." Selina shrugged. "C'mon. I know who's working the door at the Regal. We can catch a movie and be irresponsible teenagers for once."
Dinah considered, then grinned broadly. "Sounds fun!"

Rogue looked away as Jubilee set off a light show in the dark of the power going out. Kitty had definitely delivered on that, and everyone they were facing was dazzled. They had waited just long enough for the night vision goggles to go on, after all.
Rogue let loose, drawing all attention to herself, letting Kitty have time to get back — and their fourth member to sniff out where the man they'd come for actually was.
No one had to guess when X-23 found him, as father and daughter cut a path back to this point.
"You look like hell, sugah," Rogue called to her long-time friend.
"You look like the cavalry," he said, before shorting out the one robotic enemy with a well-placed claw-punch.
"Time to exit!" Jubilee called out, and while the few standing tried to stop them, they were no match for Wolvie and his girls.

Leetah turned enough to see who was coming into the bower, and smiled that it was Nightfall.
"The others will be here soon," Nightfall promised. She then set the skin of dreamberry wine with the other treats.
"Distracted by the sky, plants, or chiefly things?" Leetah asked with a smile, before finishing the mixture of honey and berry mash. She brought it over and added it to the offerings.
"Chiefly, but the three were together."
"Good, then not long at all." Leetah took her friend and lovemate's hand. "It is a good idea, to take a night for the five of us."
"Everything has been so hectic and now it's all calming down with winter coming," Nightfall agreed. "I'm just surprised we managed to get Skywise to agree before he disappeared off to whichever lovemate he's got his eyes on for the season."
"True," Leetah agreed, before the three men filtered in.
"Talking about me?" Skywise asked with a beaming smile. "I wasn't going to miss out!"
"Wouldn't have anything to do with us having wine and jam and everything to fill your belly?" Redlance teased, settling with his mate, much as Cutter drew Skywise to Leetah's side.
"Might have."
I added the fandoms that start with e, and that would be for Elfquest, still going since 1977 in various forms and under many publishers.
